Panama is a country located at the southeast end of Central America. Its official name is Republic of Panama and its capital is Panama City. To the north of the country is the Caribbean Sea, to the south, the Pacific Ocean, to the east, Colombia and to the west, Costa Rica. Located on the isthmus that connects South America with Central America, its mountains are only interrupted by the Panama Canal. The country has abundant water and a long-standing history of hydraulic engineering linked with the huge construction works and protection of the canal between both oceans.
